LEONARDTOWN, Md. – St. Mary’s County Government’s Museum Division, in coordination with the Southern Maryland 250th Committee, Southern Maryland National Heritage Area, Visit St. Mary’s MD, Maryland Public Television, and numerous Southern Maryland civic organizations, is proud to present Rebels & Redcoats: A Southern Maryland Revolutionary War Family Event, taking place this Saturday and Sunday, April 11–12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Piney Point Lighthouse Museum & Historic Park and St. George Island.
Rebels & Redcoats is a free, family-friendly event commemorating the American War for Independence as it unfolded in St. Mary’s County and across Southern Maryland. The event will be held near the site of the Battle of St. George Island—the only Revolutionary War battle to occur in Maryland—and is part of the broader celebration of America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
Exhibits and displays from organizations highlighting local 18th-century history will be featured, along with musket and cannon fire demonstrations, food trucks, educational and period programming, children’s and family activities, reenactors, a period encampment, military demonstrations, live-fire drills, boat cruises, and more for all ages.
Visitors can experience life in camp for Maryland’s Revolutionary War soldiers and militiamen as the nation begins its 250th anniversary commemoration. Explore encampments, learn what soldiers wore and carried, join a militia rifle drill, and enjoy military music and other period activities.
Event parking will be off-site at Piney Point Elementary School, with free shuttles transporting visitors to Piney Point Lighthouse Museum and St. George Island from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
To mark the final year of this event, a special, ticketed Tavern Night will be held Saturday evening. Step back into an 18th-century tavern and raise a glass to revolution. Rebels & Redcoats Tavern Night offers an immersive evening of music, merriment, and mischief as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday the way our founders would have—at the tavern. Tickets and information are available at: https://TavernNightSOMD250.eventbrite.com.

Event made possible by the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County, St. Mary’s County Museum Division, Southern Maryland National Heritage Area, Maryland Public Television, Visit St. Mary’s MD, Southern Maryland Semi Quincentennial Committee, and other area civic organizations.
