Theresa Leonard of Leonard realty presents a check on behalf of the Southern Maryland Association of  REALTORS® to Second Hope Rescue. Danielle Kocinski accepts check while holding Anna, one of Second Hope’s adoptable dogs

Leonardtown, MD — The Southern Maryland Association of REALTORS® has garnered a first place award from the Maryland Association of REALTORS®, and with it a check for $8,000 to give to local charities.

Each year the state association hands out its Community Action and REALTOR® Excellence (C.A.R.E.) Award to local boards and associations to recognize achievements in community service and charitable actions. The award is designed to raise the profile of REALTORS®, to recognize the contributions REALTORS® make in their communities in terms of volunteer hours and money raised, and to offset the perception that REALTORS® are only concerned with the business transactions of buying and selling homes.

The Southern Maryland Association of REALTORS® is headquartered in Hughesville. Jann Clark is executive director and John Coller is board president.

One of the organizations chosen to receive a C.A.R.E. check is Second Hope Rescue, a 501-c-3 non-profit dedicated to rescuing and finding homes for homeless dogs and cats.

Theresa Leonard of Leonard Realty in California presented a $500 check to Danielle Kocinski, representing second Hope Rescue. One of the organizations adoptable dogs, Anna, was cradled in Danielle’s arms. The money will be used for the care and feeding of the dogs and cats in Second Hope’s care. Kocinski’s daughter Nicolina also attended the check presentation which was held at the College of Southern Maryland Leonardtown Campus.

Leonard said that the association’s members always feel good about contributing to animal rescue organizations.
