BETHESDA, Md. — The 68th Capital Emmy Awards Ceremony was held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center on June 20, where Maryland Public Television (MPT) won 20 Emmys spanning a wide range of categories. Twenty Emmys is the highest number of awards that MPT has ever won in an individual competition, breaking a new record for the 56-year-old network.

Maryland Public Television is known for its regional and educational broadcasting, offering viewers a taste of local history and culture. They’re best known for popular programs like “MotorWeek,” “Chesapeake Collectibles” and “Maryland Farm & Harvest.”

One of the most noteworthy Emmys won by MPT was by director Sandy Petrykowski, the director of “Key Bridge Disaster: Reflect, Recover, Rebuild.” This documentary film offered a glimpse into the reality of one of the biggest tragedies in Maryland’s recent history, honoring those who died and explaining the economic impact of the disaster.

Another highlight of the MPT award winners was “Maryland Farm & Harvest,” which managed to secure four separate Emmys at this year’s award ceremony. The “Outdoor Maryland” program did even better, winning eight Emmys in total.

As the second-biggest statewide public television network in the United States, MPT has secured its place as one of the most important broadcasters in Maryland and the country as a whole. After its success at the Capital Emmy Awards Ceremony, viewers are waiting with bated breath to see what it has in store for 2027 and beyond.
