SOLOMONS, Md. – The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the Calvert Marine Museum’s Harms Gallery on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Organizers said donations are especially important heading into the fall, when blood supplies often run low. Red blood cells, the most commonly transfused blood component, are needed daily in hospitals for surgeries, accident victims, and patients with chronic illnesses.
Donors can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, visiting RedCrossBlood.org with sponsor code CMM, or using the Blood Donor App. Those who prefer to streamline the process may complete a RapidPass online to answer health questions before arriving.
Each donation can help save more than one life, officials said, and residents who give blood between Sept. 22 and Oct. 19 will also receive a $10 Amazon.com gift card by email.
The museum, located at 14200 Solomons Island Road, will open its gallery space to welcome donors for the community event.
