Members of the Charles County Redistricting Board tackled the issue of at large elections during Thursday nightโ€™s meeting, something county Republicans have wanted to see changed for years.ย  In Charles County, all commissioners are currently elected at large, not by their individual districts alone.

Changes to the voting structure would mean that residents of the county could only vote for the commissioner of their district.ย  Currently, residents vote for all districts.ย  This has been a contentious point for the Charles County Republican Central Committee, who feels they could at least pick up one seat if the elections were by district.

The Commissioner President would still be elected at large.ย  The board did vote unanimously to have the commissioners evaluate the impact of changing voting from the current system to single district voting.
