HOLLYWOOD, Md. — Authorities say a man with a string of arrests for trespassing is now facing a raft of criminal charges, including burglary and theft, after he was caught multiple times entering private properties across Hollywood and Lexington Park without permission.
According to court records, Marquan Christopher Wells, 37, of Great Mills, was arrested several times between July 6 and July 10, 2025, following a series of alleged incidents that spanned local hotels, a convenience store and even the county detention center.
One of the most recent arrests occurred on July 9, when Wells was found locked inside a hotel room at the La Quinta on Three Notch Road in Hollywood. Police say Wells bypassed hotel staff and slipped past a cleaning crew into a room that was being prepared for another guest. When approached by law enforcement, Wells reportedly said he was trying to shower and go to bed.
Officers confirmed that Wells had been served a formal “no trespass” order just days earlier and was not allowed on the property. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Wells entering the building without paying for a room. He was charged with fourth-degree burglary and trespassing and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
This incident followed at least three other arrests that week. On July 8, Wells allegedly walked into Birdies Convenience Store in Hollywood and consumed a variety of snacks and beverages, including cookies, soda and pizza, without paying. Witnesses say he wandered the aisles, opened food and discarded wrappers before walking behind the counter and helping himself to pizza slices. When questioned by police, Wells reportedly said he was hungry and had not eaten. He was charged with theft under $100.
On July 7, Wells was arrested twice in one day for returning to the La Quinta despite being banned from the property. According to officers, hotel staff reported that Wells loitered in the hallway and attempted to enter rooms while waiting for cleaning staff to finish. In one instance, he ignored police commands and tried to talk his way into staying. He was again charged with trespassing.
Court documents also show that Wells was cited for separate shoplifting incidents at Wawa in Lexington Park on June 15 and 16, where he allegedly filled a yellow plastic bag with sandwiches and candy and left the store without paying. Surveillance footage reportedly confirmed the thefts. The total estimated value of goods taken from Wawa was $60.
Wells faces multiple misdemeanor counts including theft under $100 and trespass on private property, as well as a misdemeanor fourth-degree burglary charge. Each theft or trespass charge carries a potential sentence of up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine. The fourth-degree burglary charge is punishable by up to three years in prison and a $3,000 fine.
Court documents filed on July 10 indicate that Wells has also been charged in a separate case with first- and second-degree assault, including assault on a detention center employee, for an incident that allegedly occurred at the county jail. That case has been referred to Circuit Court.
Wells remains in custody pending a series of hearings in the coming weeks. Multiple judges have ordered him held without bond pending a mental competency review and evaluation for criminal responsibility. His first court appearance in the Circuit Court for the assault charges has not yet been scheduled.
