Lusby, MD –ย Local firefighters responded to a house fire in the Cove Point area of Lusby Sunday morning, May 1 around 10 a.m. According to a report by Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department (Company 3) public information officer Norman Rae, the crews dispatched to the scene learned one person was trapped in the home. โCrews immediately began a search and rescue, and were able to find the (person), who had sustained serious smoke inhalation and second/third-degree burns,โ Rae stated.
Since helicopters were grounded due to the weather, the injured person was taken by ambulance to Calvert Memorial Hospital. No further information on the injured personโs condition.
โDue to this fire two elderly adults have been displaced from their residence and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross,โ Rae stated. โThe total estimate loss due to the fire is approximately $250,000 and the start of the fire is still under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal.โ
Rae reported that many crews were at the scene for four-and-a-half hours.
In addition to Company 3, units from Prince Frederick, St. Leonard, Huntingtown, Hollywood, Bay District and Leonardtown responded to the fire.
