Lusby, MD –ย Local firefighters responded to a house fire in the Cove Point area of Lusby Sunday morning, May 1 around 10 a.m. According to a report by Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department (Company 3) public information officer Norman Rae, the crews dispatched to the scene learned one person was trapped in the home. โ€œCrews immediately began a search and rescue, and were able to find the (person), who had sustained serious smoke inhalation and second/third-degree burns,โ€ Rae stated.

Since helicopters were grounded due to the weather, the injured person was taken by ambulance to Calvert Memorial Hospital. No further information on the injured personโ€™s condition.

โ€œDue to this fire two elderly adults have been displaced from their residence and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross,โ€ Rae stated. โ€œThe total estimate loss due to the fire is approximately $250,000 and the start of the fire is still under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal.โ€

Rae reported that many crews were at the scene for four-and-a-half hours.
In addition to Company 3, units from Prince Frederick, St. Leonard, Huntingtown, Hollywood, Bay District and Leonardtown responded to the fire.

Units are on the scene of a one story single family house with smoke showing. Crews have a burn victim and are requesting a helicopter.ย
