Leonardtown, MD — It’s official! Republican Deb Rey is the new member of the Maryland House of Delegates for District 29B. After the final absentee ballot count Friday by the St. Mary’s County Board of Election Supervisors, Rey’s lead over the Democratic incumbent John Bohanan widened from 69 votes to 76 votes: 5,334 to 5,258.
On election night the disparity was 115 votes, the closest on the St. Mary’s County ballot. Bohanan conceded defeat on election night and said he did not expect the results to change with the several rounds of absentee and provisional ballot counts.
Rey’s victory solidifies a Republican sweep in St. Mary’s County statehouse positions, with Senator-elect Steve Waugh (29) and Delegate Elect Matt Morgan (29A) joining Rey and incumbent Delegate Tony O’Donnell (29C) in Annapolis when the legislature convenes on the second Wednesday in January.
Swearing in ceremony for local offices will be December 5th at Chopticon High School.
