HUGHESVILLE, Md. — A 38-year-old woman was injured after falling from a horse at Maxwell Hall Park on Tuesday afternoon, marking the second equestrian accident in southern Maryland in recent weeks.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the park, located at 6680 Maxwell Drive, at approximately 12:30 p.m. on March 18, 2025. Crews arrived to find the woman in a remote area, suffering from a suspected tibia and fibula fracture. EMS evaluated the patient on the scene and transported her to Calvert Health Medical Center for treatment.

Maxwell Hall Park equestrian riding trails are more than 14 miles long, including flat, open spaces, steep wooded terrain, a cross-country jumping course, a trail obstacle course, and beachfront riding along the Patuxent River.

Tuesday’s incident follows a similar accident on Feb. 27, when another woman fell from a horse in Clements.
