GREAT MILLS, Md. — A Great Mills woman remains in custody without bond after authorities allege she assaulted her former partner during a violent confrontation that escalated into a gun threat.

According to court records and a probable cause statement, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Greens Crossing Court on the morning of July 27, 2025, following a 911 call reporting a domestic assault involving a firearm. Upon arrival, deputies heard a loud disturbance inside the home and entered to find two women yelling at each other.

The defendant, identified as Damisha Inez Corben, 33, of Great Mills, allegedly told investigators she returned to the residence around 8 a.m. and discovered the victim in bed with a male subject. Corben admitted she shook the victim awake and a fight broke out after she was slapped. She further acknowledged punching the victim and placing her hands on the victim’s throat during the altercation. The situation spiraled onto the floor, where Corben claimed her pistol fell from her pocket but denied striking anyone with it.

The victim provided a sharply different account, stating she awoke to Corben attacking her in bed and later pulling a pistol from her pocket, allegedly threatening, “I’ma kill this [expletive],” before striking her in the face with the barrel. Deputies observed injuries consistent with the victim’s statement, including marks on her neck and a laceration over her left eyebrow. Investigators recovered a 9mm Smith & Wesson M&P Shield pistol hidden under a bathroom sink near where Corben was found.

Both parties confirmed they previously shared an intimate relationship that ended about a week prior. Due to physical injuries, corroborating statements, and the recovery of the firearm, Corben was taken into custody.

She faces two counts of first-degree assault, each a felony that under Maryland law carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, and one count of second-degree assault, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 10 years and a $2,500 fine. Corben appeared before Judge Karen Christy Holt Chesser for a bail review on July 28 and was ordered held without bond pending further proceedings. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21, 2025, in St. Mary’s District Court.
