LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – Malachi Alexander Steele, 22, of Lexington Park, faces multiple felony charges following a string of violent incidents on November 6, 2024. According to court records from the St. Mary’s County District Court, Steele allegedly assaulted three individuals across Lexington Park while riding a distinctive blue and white bicycle, which was later discovered to be stolen. His arrest has brought an end to a harrowing spree that left community members shaken.
The first reported assault, detailed in official documents, took place around 10:30 a.m. on Great Mills Road near a local grocery store. The first victim described being struck in the face by an unknown assailant on a bicycle. The attacker, identified as Steele in court filings, reportedly slapped the victim across the face before fleeing the scene.
Shortly after, a second assault was reported outside a nearby post office. Another victim recounted how Steele had allegedly struck them in the head with a metal pipe, causing a large welt and dizziness, leading to their subsequent treatment at a hospital. The injuries and witness descriptions provided in the official statement of probable cause were consistent with the violent actions attributed to Steele.
While deputies canvassed the area for the suspect, a third assault unfolded at a nearby intersection. Steele’s intimate partner, who was on her way to a social gathering, reported that Steele confronted her, allegedly shoving her to the ground twice, causing injuries to her knee and elbow. This victim, referenced in the court documents, disclosed her relationship with Steele to officers, adding further context to the series of violent encounters.
Equipped with detailed descriptions from the victims and video footage, law enforcement located Steele near a local road later that morning. Officers discovered Steele in possession of a blue and white bicycle, which matched the description of a bike reported stolen earlier that day. Steele was detained after a brief interaction with deputies, during which he admitted to one altercation but denied involvement in the other assaults.
In a troubling detail captured in court documents, Steele reportedly made an incriminating statement to another inmate while in custody, saying, “I had to push baby moms to the ground,” followed by laughter. Additionally, surveillance footage obtained from a nearby establishment confirmed his presence on the stolen bike during one of the assaults.
Steele now faces a range of charges, including first- and second-degree assault and theft under $1,500. The official charges in the court filings highlight the gravity of the alleged offenses, with the assault charges alone posing the threat of substantial prison time.
This series of events has underscored the urgency of addressing violent incidents in Lexington Park, as Steele’s actions left a visible trail of fear and injury. The community now awaits the next steps in the case as Steele remains in custody, facing accountability for his alleged actions.
