Maryland Route 301 in Waldorf was shut down for two-and-a-half hours Thursday evening after a car slammed into the rear of a fuel tanker. According to the Maryland State Police, Tpr. Kenge responded at 6:27 p.m. at the Vernon Road intersection to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision involving a fuel tanker and a passenger vehicle. The driver of the passenger vehicle, Aaron Michael Butler, 21, failed to pay full time and attention, which caused his vehicle to strike the rear of the fuel tanker driver by George Nathanial Dorsey Sr., 61.
The passenger vehicle went underneath the fuel tanker. Maryland Department of the Environment Hazmat Unit responded to the scene. They stated that the tanker was not leaking and that the passenger vehicle could be removed from underneath the fuel tanker without further damaging the tanker.
The passenger vehicle was removed from the scene by Altra Towing. The fuel tanker was removed to a vacant parking lot to have the two rear tires changed. The tanker was inspected by the Maryland State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Division and found to be safe to drive.
The driver of the fuel tanker was not injured and the driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to Civista Hospital in La Plata with minor injuries. The roadways of northbound and southbound of Maryland Route 301 were closed for approximately two-and-a-half hours.
