Shoveling snow is a tough task to tackle. It can become harmful, or even deadly. Follow the tips below to ensure successful snow removal.

1. Shovel every 4 hours to keep up with the snow fall.

2. Make sure when you do not put shoveled snow in a place where it will be in the way later. Many people make this mistake!

3. Wait to do the end of your driveway where it intersects with the road until after the plows have come through. It’s not fun to have to do this twice, thinking you are done only to have the plow come by and push it all back.

4. Remove snow from heat pumps.

5.  Dress in light layers with proper boots, hat and gloves, ski mask, etc.

6. Your shovel should be lightly sprayed with lubricant so the snow does not stick to it.

7. Use your legs, not your back, while shoveling.

8. Take breaks! Shoveling is hard work and many heart attacks can happen. Don’t overexert yourself, stay hydrated and stop immediately if you begin to feel weak, lightheaded or dizzy, or if you can’t catch your breath.
