The weather was so good on Saturday that sailors in the Hospice Challenge Regatta went through a full round robin of 15 races and then decided to go through a second full round day on Sunday.

Association, then sailed to the Patuxent where the race started. ย With the exception of the last race that was conceded by the Flag Harbor Team, a total of 29 races were run.ย The winning teams were: the Outback, ranking one with 9 points; ย Hospice of St. Maryโs, ranking second with 7 points; Zahniserโs, ranking third with 7 points; Southern Maryland Sailing Foundation, ranking fourth, with 4 points; Calver marina/Carmenโs Gallery, ranking fifth with 2 points and Flag harbor Yacht Haven, ranking 6 with 1 point.
Sailors received trophies hand-painted by Barbara Herbig,one of the race judges and a member of SMSA, The Outback Team is giving one of theirs to their sponsor, the Outback Restaurant. Paticipants celebrated Saturday evening at Casino Night at the SMSA on Solomons Island.ย Proceeds from the regatta go to the Calvert County Hospice, Hospice of St. Mary’s, the Southern Marlyand Sailing Foundation and the Prince Frederick Rotary Scholarship Fund.
