vehicle break ins maryland

GREAT MILLS, Md. — A Saint Leonard man was recently charged after investigators reported a series of overnight vehicle break-ins across Great Mills, including a stolen Chevrolet Equinox, stolen wallets, sunglasses, gift cards, cash and credit cards.

Brian Marcus Ceasar, 19, of Saint Leonard, was charged by criminal summons with 43 counts, including unauthorized removal of a motor vehicle, rogue and vagabond, theft and stealing credit cards. The charges stem from incidents reported during the overnight hours of April 6 into April 7, 2026.

Charging documents state deputies with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple reports of burglaries to motor vehicles in the Great Mills area.

The investigation began after deputies responded April 7 to the 45000 block of Nicholas Court for a motor vehicle theft and recovery. The owner of a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox reported the vehicle had been parked outside a residence the night before. The next morning, the vehicle had been driven approximately 200 feet and abandoned.

Court documents state the vehicle appeared to have been rummaged through and the rear driver’s-side window was lowered. Surveillance footage from the area reportedly showed four people walking from the driver’s side of the vehicle at approximately 4 a.m.

Deputies later documented a broader series of vehicle break-ins across several Great Mills neighborhoods, including Nicholas Court, Oriole Drive, Abby Court, Greenview Court, Iverson Drive, North Maxine Way, Douglas Court, Balsam Way, Tares Court, Knockeyon Lane, Military Lane, Mattingly Lane, Graves Road, Old Dewitt Road and other nearby locations.

Charging documents list multiple vehicles that were entered or reportedly targeted, including pickup trucks, SUVs, sedans, minivans and other parked vehicles. Some vehicle owners reported nothing was stolen, while others reported stolen items including wallets, sunglasses, gift cards, credit cards, a backpack, a lunchbox and U.S. currency.

Investigators reported that surveillance footage from Knockeyon Lane showed four people in dark clothing walking through the neighborhood at approximately 4:57 a.m. Additional footage from Greenview Knolls Elementary School showed four people running along Military Lane at approximately 3:21 a.m., consistent with the timeframe of a burglary to a vehicle on Military Lane.

Court documents state investigators mapped the burglary locations and identified several geographic points within a roughly one-third-mile radius. A search and seizure warrant later authorized use of cellular location data, and investigators reported a phone associated with Ceasar was in the area of multiple burglary locations during the relevant timeframe.

Investigators also obtained a search warrant for Ceasar’s phone. Charging documents state the phone contained messages from the early morning hours of April 7 that investigators connected to the burglaries, including references to locations and what others had taken.

During a June 11 search and seizure warrant for Ceasar’s person, investigators seized an Apple iPhone 13 in a black case. Ceasar agreed to speak with investigators and acknowledged his cellular device was near the burglaries of motor vehicles, charging documents state.

Court documents state Ceasar identified several other people as involved in the burglaries. The provided case file does not list charges against those individuals.

The charges were issued by criminal summons on June 26, 2026.

A preliminary inquiry is set for Aug. 7, 2026, in St. Mary’s County District Court.
