SOLOMONS, Md. — Under bright sunshine and a steady Chesapeake breeze, community members gathered along Solomons Island Road South on May 8 to celebrate the grand opening of Savvie’s Blue Shell Boutique, a coastal-inspired shop that blends style, charm and a love for life by the water.
Located at 14560 Solomons Island Road South, directly across from The Pier Restaurant, the boutique opened its doors with sweeping waterfront views just steps away, setting the tone for what owner Vickie Kite Milburn described as a true coastal experience.

Milburn, who is opening her second location, welcomed guests into a space filled with soft blues, teals and beach-inspired décor, a reflection of the surrounding bay and the relaxed lifestyle it represents.
Inside the boutique, shoppers are greeted with a carefully curated mix of coastal fashion, seaside-inspired décor and specialty gifts designed to reflect the relaxed charm of Solomons Island. According to the boutique’s website, they focus on “handpicked happiness,” offering merchandise sourced from Maryland, across the United States and internationally.
The shop also features luxurious self-care products from the United States, Australia and Europe, along with uplifting artwork, seasonal décor and resort-inspired fashion that changes regularly throughout the year. Visitors explored displays of nautical décor, jewelry, coastal apparel and locally inspired pieces that celebrated life on the Chesapeake Bay.

A Celebration Of Growth And Community
After receiving the proclamation from Sheebah Smith, deputy director of the Calvert County Department of Economic Development, Milburn thanked those who supported her journey.
“I also want to thank everyone who made this possible — my family, my husband, my sister and all my friends,” she said. “The community has been so great, and I’m truly grateful.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked not only a new business opening, but also continued economic growth in the Solomons area.
Attendees gathered inside the boutique for the ceremonial ribbon cutting, where oversized blue scissors — a fitting nod to the shop’s color palette — were used to officially mark the opening.

Coastal Details Inside And Out
Inside, the boutique embraces a distinctly coastal aesthetic. Decorative touches include sea life motifs, nautical artwork and locally inspired designs, creating a shopping experience that feels both personal and connected to the region.
The front entrance table included hand soaps, candles, lotions, sunscreen and lip balm, a perfect selection of necessities for coastal life.

Outside, guests enjoyed a welcoming setup that mirrored the laid-back coastal theme, complete with seating areas and décor that reflect the charm of Solomons Island.
A refreshment table featuring fresh fruit, cheeses and beverages added to the celebratory atmosphere, offering visitors a chance to mingle while taking in the view of the nearby water.

A Boutique Rooted In The Bay Lifestyle
With its waterfront location and thoughtfully curated inventory, the boutique captures the essence of Southern Maryland’s coastal culture, where style meets shoreline living.
For Milburn, the second location represents both expansion and a continued commitment to offering a unique shopping destination rooted in the community.
The boutique joins the growing collection of specialty shops helping define Solomons as a waterfront destination for shopping, dining and tourism.
For visitors and locals alike, the boutique offers more than retail shopping — it provides an extension of the Solomons waterfront lifestyle, blending coastal elegance, thoughtful gifts and relaxed Chesapeake charm into one inviting space.
The combination of scenic views, coastal décor and carefully selected merchandise made one thing clear: Blue Shell Boutique is designed to be more than a store — it’s an experience.
