It’s that time again where prospective students start thinking about applying for college. As it is every year, though, it’s going to be expensive. If you’re thinking about college, you need to start thinking about funding your education. One great way of funding it is by winning scholarships, and there’s plenty out there. Here’s some of the best scholarship opportunities out there that you may not have known about. There are even international scholarships. 

1. Kool’s College Sponsorship

Amount: $1000
Deadline: December 31st 2016
This scholarship by Kool Recovery is for anyone who’s thinking about going into mental health care when they graduate from college. To enter, you need to write a 400-500 word essay on ‘How To Improve the Quality of Behavioural Healthcare Services’. If you already have an interest in the subject, you’re sure to have lots of ideas already that you can incorporate into your essay.

2. Directive Consulting’s Annual ‘Search To Learn’ Scholarship

Amount: $1000
Deadline: May 14th 2017
Have an interest in digital marketing? You could be perfect for this scholarship by Directive Consulting. To enter, you need to make a 30 second to one minute video explaining how digital marketing has changed our society. You’ll also need to include one interesting fact about yourself, and your dream job. Think creatively and feel free to use effects, costumes or anything else you can think of. Finally, upload your video to Youtube or Vimeo and submit it.

3. The Einstein Academic Scholarship

Amount: $1000
Deadline:  December 1st 2016
This Einstein Moving scholarship requires you to submit a 500-1000 word essay on academic achievement. What does the term ‘academic achievement’ mean to you? How can having high academic achievement help you achieve your goals? This topic is intentionally broad, so think outside the box and write the most interesting essay you can.

4. Boom Essays Scholarship

Amount: 1st place $2000, 2nd place $1500, 3rd place $1000
Deadline: February 20th 2017
You’ll have to put your essay writing skills to the test to win this scholarship. Pick a topics from their list, such as ‘How will education change in the next 50 years?’ or ‘How relevant are academic degrees in the workplace?’ and do an essay on it.

5. ManualBirds Video Scholarship Program

Amount: $500
Deadline: February 27th 2017
Are you interested in fixing and fiddling with devices? This scholarship could be for you, then. You’ll need to make a video based on the idea ‘How I Fixed A Machine Or Product’. It’ll need to be about 3-5 minutes long and in English. Include a walkthrough, tips and tricks if you have them. Upload to Youtube and then enter!

6. Youth Forward Scholarship 2016

Amount: $1500
Deadline: December 1st 2016
Volunteering is becoming more important to universities, so this scholarship wants to hear from those who have volunteered in their communities. You’ll need to write an essay of 500 words answering the questions laid out on the website, including ‘What has been your biggest challenge as a volunteer?’ Show them how volunteering has changed your life, and others, for the better.

7. Australian Essay Writing Scholarship

Amount: 1st prize $3000, 2nd prize $2500, 3rd prize $1500
Deadline: March 1st 2017
This Australian writing contest can be a great way for students to get a bit extra cash towards tuition. Pick a topic from the list provided, such as ‘How can you achieve a work/life balance as a student?’ and write a 600-800 word sociology essay on the topic. Be as creative as you can, and show the writers from this website that you can beat them at their own game.

8. Out-Of-The-Box Thinking Scholarship

Amount: 1st prize $1500, 2nd prize $1000, 3rd prize $500
Deadline: February 1st 2017
Have you got ideas for new products? Put them to use with this writing contest. In an essay of minimum 400 word, lay out your idea for a product you think needs to exist, and tell the sponsors why it’s needed. This is your chance to wow them, and show how your creative thinking can lead to the successful products of tomorrow.

9. ChameleonJohn Annual $3,000 Scholarship

Deadline: December 1st 2016
To get this scholarship by Chameleon John, you’ll need to answer three questions: ‘What are your goals in life, and how will your studies help you achieve them?’, ‘How will this scholarship change your life?’ and ‘What quote from a famous person represents your attitude towards life and success?’

10. Women Leaders Scholarship

Amount: $2500
Deadline: December 1st 2016
This scholarship is designed for tomorrow’s women leaders. You’re asked to make a video no longer than five minutes, explaining why you’re so passionate about what you do, and why you’ll be a woman leader in the future. The winner will be picked on who expressed their desires and passions the most eloquently.

11. British Essay Writing Contest

Amount: First place: £3500, Second place: £2500, Third place: £2000
Deadline: May 31st 2017
To claim this scholarship, you will need to write an essay of around 700-900 words on one of the topics from the scholarship guidelines.

12. Hitting The Golf Ball Sports Scholarship

Amount: $1000
Deadline: January 31st 2017
If you have a love of sports, try entering this scholarship competition. You’ll be required to write an essay between 500-1000 words, on the topic ‘How technology is affecting sports’. Whether it’s changing sport for the better or worse it up to you.

Do you want to get into a trade? Enter this scholarship competition. You need to create a video, between 2 and three minutes in length, about why you want to get into a skilled profession. Tell them why you could be the best at what you’d do.

14. The Ultimate Promotion Scholarship

Deadline: August 1st 2017
Want to get into promotion? Use this opportunity to outline your ultimate promotion idea. In an essay of 1500 words or less, outline your idea for one of your favourite brands and show why it would work. Be imaginative, and go into detail where necessary.

15. FormsBirds $500 Scholarship Contest

Deadline: August 31st 2017
FormBirds aim to make forms accessible to all, so they want to know why you think they’re important. Write an essay, between 500-1000 words in length, on the topic ‘Would you often use forms in daily life? What conveniences have forms brought you?’
