Waldorf, MD – Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) staff volunteered March 21 for the Safe Nights program held at New Hope AME Church in Waldorf.
LifeStyles of Maryland runs Safe Nights, a program that provides shelter and food for homeless people from October 1 through April 15. More than 25 CCPS volunteers prepared a meal for Safe Nights guests, with more volunteers donating food or money to the effort.
Earl Sorsby III, budget assistant, and Chris Mulhollan Miller, specialist in test development in the department of research and assessment, discussed the idea of volunteering while they were helping out with the spelling bee. โWe thought it would be fun to become more involved in the community,โ Miller said.
The group is collecting food and monetary donations for a food pantry that assists students who attend Indian Head Elementary School and John Hanson and Benjamin Stoddert middle schools.
