LANCASTER, Pa. – Junior Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) repeated as the Atlantic East Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Year when the conference office released the 2024 All-Atlantic East Conference Men’s Swimming Teams Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 20).

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s swim team landed eight on the all-conference teams while eighth-year Head Coach Casey Brandt and his staff of Carolyn Sutton ’20Christian March, and Zach Shattuck earned Atlantic East Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Brandt and his staff led St. Mary’s College to a second consecutive second-place finish at the Atlantic East Men’s Swimming Championships.

For Brandt and his staff, this is their first men’s coaching staff of the year award, but second overall, as the Seahawks collected Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2010-11.

In the history of the men’s swimming program, only two Seahawks have earned Swimmer of the Year honors. Pat McGarrity ’99 notched the CAC Swimmer of the Year award in 1998-99 while Schwenk has twice been named the Atlantic East Swimmer of the Year (2022-23 and 2023-24).

Schwenk, sophomores Robert Shively (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman), first-years Anthony Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale), Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point), and Kyle Smith (Crofton, Md./Crofton) all collected First and Second Team awards while sophomore William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) and first-years CB Jurado (Odenton, Md./Arundel) and Kai Ng (Silver Spring, Md./Northwood) tallied Second Team honors.

Schwenk collected five gold medals (50, 100, and 200 freestyle, 200 and 400 medley relays) and two silver ones (200 and 400 freestyle relays) over the course of the four-day Atlantic East Championships to add five First Team All-Atlantic East awards and two Second Team All-Atlantic East honors.

The 6-2 captain registered six championship meet records, six conference marks, and six school ones. He also clocked a pair of NCAA B cuts in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle while his 50-freestyle time of 19.86 is currently the top time in Division III.

Along with two Swimmer of the Year awards, Schwenk was named the Atlantic East Rookie of the Year in 2021-22. Through three seasons, he has collected 20 All-Atlantic East awards, including 13 First Team honors.

Last year’s Atlantic East Rookie of the Year, Shively gained four First Team All-Atlantic East honors in the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle as well as a member of the triumphant 200 and 400 medley relays. Additionally, he added Second Team All-Atlantic East awards in the 100 butterfly and as part of the second-place 800 freestyle relay. Shively now has 11 all-conference awards, including seven First Team honors.

Davis picked up four all-conference awards in his championship debut, collecting two First Team awards as a member of the victorious 200 and 400 medley relays while garnering a Second Team honor as a member of the second-place 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Madigan notched four all-league honors in his first conference championship meet. He gained First Team honors as a member of the winning 400-medley relay while earning Second Team awards in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and as a member of the 800-freestyle relay.

Smith was a part of the first-place 200 medley relay for his first career First Team All-Atlantic East award while being a member of the second-place 200 and 400 freestyle relays for a pair of Second Team honors.

Kendrick now has three career Second Team All-Atlantic East honors after swimming on the second-place 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Jurado garnered two Second Team All-Atlantic East honors in his championship meet debut with a second-place finish in the 1650 freestyle and being a member of the second-place 800 freestyle relay.

Ng rounded out the all-conference selections for the Seahawks with a Second Team award as a member of the 800-freestyle relay.
