UPDATE Friday morning, Aug. 18

Newburg, MD – The search for a man who reportedly jumped out of a boat around noon Thursday, Aug. 17 on the Potomac River near Charles County is resuming Friday morning. Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) spokeswoman Candy Thomson told TheBayNet.com that the U.S. Coast Guard will be leading the search party. Several rescue boats from Charles County and Colonial Beach searched the Potomac in the areas of Captain Billy’s Crabhouse and Aqualand Marina in an effort to locate the man. Maryland State Police Trooper 7 did an aerial search. The incident was not reported until 6 p.m. Thursday night.

Popes Creek, MD – At 6:30 p.m. authorities in Charles County dispatched rescue crews to the Potomac River in the area of Popes Creek for the report of a missing man who reportedly jumped off a boat around noon. Reports indicate that Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) are en route to the scene. Several boats and the dive team have been dispatched.

At 7:15 p.m. Charles County authorities reported Maryland State Police Trooper 7 is headed to the scene to conduct an aerial search for the missing man. A vessel from the Colonial Beach, VA rescue squad has also been dispatched.
