Despite the cold temperatures, a good crowd showed up at Leonardtown High School last night to watch the Raiders tip off against Westlake. The “Bird Cage” was cheering loudly as Leonardtown took the 51-43 victory.
It was a tough battle early with the Raider boys taking a 16-14 lead into the second quarter. Then Westlake went on a 12-2 run to grab the 26-24 lead at the half. Leonardtown’s senior leadership took over in the second half.
Nick Shade ran the offense well from the point and finished with 11 points. Ryan Vanderwest led all scorers with 16 points including the games only dunk on a pretty outlet pass from guard Shawn Miedzinski. The raiders finished strong at home with a 14-6 scoring run in the final quarter.
Westlake was led in scoring by Maurice Owens and Marcus Mason with ten points each.
