(UPPER MARLBORO, Maryland)  ~ One hundred years later, the Wild One, a timeless treasure at Six Flags America Washington, D.C./Baltimore, still brings thrills to coaster enthusiasts of all ages.

“It’s not every day that a theme park can celebrate a 100-year old ride. The impressive coaster lives on and still offers speed, smoothness and a heck of a lot of air time,” says Dave Johnson, Six Flags America Marketing Director.

Its 100-year backstory began with its origins in Paragon Park at Nantasket Beach, MA. It was first known as the GIANT Coaster, the tallest roller coaster in the world and where it endured no less than 8 hurricanes. It was auctioned off and transported to Wild World which later became Six Flags America as of 1999.

The park took great care in the decision to reconstruct the historic wooden coaster. It was decided, to add to the excitement of showcasing such a thrilling roller coaster, the park would completely restore the coaster to its original condition.

Several weddings have taken place actually on The Wild One in Maryland and Baseball Hall of Famer and Baltimore native, Cal Ripken, Jr. has also taken a spin or two on The Wild One.

Although Wild One now sits in the shadows of more recent installations such as Superman:  Ride of Steel, and Batwing, the ride will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Six Flags America guests looking for a no frills, classic wooden coaster experience and serves as the true heart and soul of the park.

In celebration of the great wooden coaster’s 100th birthday, a brand new logo has been designed.
