LA PLATA, Md. — An Indian Head man was arrested after police say he was found sleeping outside a senior living community while trespassing and in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Darius Antonio Mills, 32, of Indian Head, was charged with possession of CDS paraphernalia and trespassing on private property following a March 2, 2026 incident in La Plata, according to court documents.

According to the Statement of Probable Cause, officers with the La Plata Police Department responded at approximately 7:46 p.m. to the Naples Senior Community located at 101 Wesley Drive for a report of a suspicious person sleeping outside.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Mills, who was sleeping outside the property. Police reported that Mills had placed personal belongings on the ground near him, including a wallet and cellphone. Inside the wallet was a Maryland driver’s license confirming his identity.

A records check through the Charles County Sheriff’s Office communications center indicated Mills had previously been barred indefinitely from the property on Dec. 18, 2025, by maintenance staff.

Officers also reported locating a glass pipe with copper mesh, commonly referred to as a “Chore Boy,” stuffed inside the end. Based on training and experience, the officer stated the item is commonly used to ingest crack cocaine.

Mills was placed under arrest and transported to the Charles County Detention Center for processing.

He was released on his own recognizance on March 2, 2026.

A hearing is set for April 21, 2026 in Charles District Court.
