LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Emergency crews responded Monday evening after a pickup truck left the roadway and crashed into a wooden pedestrian bridge at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, ultimately coming to rest in a marsh area near Wherritts Pond.
The crash occurred on March 30, 2026, at approximately 6:40 p.m. near Point Lookout Road and the intersection of College Drive.
Authorities say a Toyota Tundra pickup truck veered off the roadway, possibly dodging a deer, struck and damaged a section of the college’s wooden bridge walkway, and continued down an embankment into the marsh.
The driver was removed and evaluated on scene. Due to the extent of the injuries, a medevac was requested.
Traffic in the area was impacted as crews operated along the shoulder and near the bridge access point.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.

Deer aren’t active this time of year, nice excuse though, driver was busy on that phone
Well I don’t believe they aren’t active this time of year. In the last week and a half I’ve seen 5 different dead deer on the side of roads.
You must not drive much. Deer are very active now.
Almost looks like he was driving on the foot bridge.
“possibly dodging a deer” has been my excuse for ending several bad relationships. It’s actually funner than ghosting.
They had to drive down a pedestrian trail, and on to the pedestrian bridge. Dodging a deer is not very believable. Would love to hear the conversation they have with their insurance company.
@Anonymous
Agreed. Phones are VERY distracting.
Deers are not active this time of year? What? Were you in the vehicle with him to know if he was on a cellphone? Accidents happened before cell phones and deer are out and about year round. This is actually a busy time for them as they are having babies. I hope the person injured recovers fully.
Probably drunk
