HUNTINGTOWN, Md. – Deputy Tony Tavares is one of Calvert County Sheriff’s Office’s newest deputies to the squad. Tavares, 23 of Chesapeake Beach, is a 2016 graduate of Huntingtown High School.
Tavares attended College of Southern Maryland and McDaniel College prior to him joining the ranks of the Calvert County Detention Center where he served as a Correctional Deputy from 2019-2021.
It was January of 2021, when Tavares began his career as a law enforcement officer and became a Deputy Sheriff with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office following graduation from the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy (SMCJA) in November of 2021.
Deputy Tavares proudly serves our Patrol Bureau.
When Deputy Tavares is not on road patrol, he continues to serve his community as the assistant coach for both the boy’s varsity and junior varsity basketball team at Huntingtown High School (HHS).
Tavares played all four years as a student at HHS and has always wanted to give back to the community he grew up in.
“I’m so excited to help the same group of coaches that helped mold me into the person I am today and can’t wait to do the same for this group of players; to help them become not only great basketball players, but successful young men!”
Thank you Coach Tony/Deputy Tavares for your commitment to our community. Thank you for your service and protection… CCSO and HHS are lucky to have you!
If you see Deputy Tavares on the court or around the community, be sure to say hello!
