At 4:16 P.M. on Monday August 15, 2011, crews from Mechanicsville VFD Co. 2, Mechanicsville VRS Co. 29, La Plata VFD Co. 1 , Hughesville VFD Co. 2,ย Waldorf VFD Co. 3,ย and Benedict VFD Co. 5 were alerted for the shed fire on the 39000 block of Mt. Wolf Road. Chief 2 arrived on scene to advise a shed well off. With the tight dirt road heading back to the shed, Chief 2 asked for only Charles Engine 22 and Tanker 2 as well as St. Mary’s Engine 224 to come back to the house while all other units stage out on the road. Units made a swift and aggressive attack on the fire putting a quick knock on the fire. The homeowner advised that he believes that lightning caused the fire from the passing thunderstorm. Crews remained on scene to clean-up any hotspots and to clean-up. Crews operated on scene for a total of 55 minutes.
