HUGHESVILLE, Md. — Firefighters responded to a reported shed fire Wednesday afternoon in the Hughesville area of Charles County.
The fire was reported shortly after 3 p.m. Dec. 31, 2025, in the 6900 block of Carrico Mill Road. Initial calls described a brush fire that appeared out of control, but dispatchers later confirmed that a detached shed or garage structure was involved.
According to dispatch notes, one caller reported driving past the property and seeing flames before later clarifying that the shed was on fire. Another caller reported that the shed belonged to him but was unable to provide further information to call takers.
Fire officials reported the structure was a one-story shed, located well off the roadway and near wooded areas. Tactical command was established at the scene as crews worked to control the fire and prevent its spread.
Several responding units experienced mechanical issues or delayed departures, and some units were later canceled as the incident was brought under control. Fire officials placed nearby stations on standby during the response.
No injuries were reported, and there was no immediate word on the cause of the fire. The Maryland State Fire Marshal was notified.
