WALDORF, Md. — A Bowie woman remains held without bond after authorities said she allegedly assaulted three employees and kicked multiple holes in walls at a Waldorf grocery store before fleeing from deputies, according to court documents. Angelica Jannee West, 24, of Bowie, faces eight charges, including three counts of assault, following the Oct. 3, 2025, incident at World Food Supermarket.

Court records show Charles County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2200 block of Crain Highway around 9:17 p.m. for a reported assault in progress. Documents state a deputy arriving on scene observed numerous witnesses screaming and pointing at West as she quickly walked away from the business. According to charging papers, West allegedly saw the deputy’s emergency lights and sirens and attempted to flee the area.

Authorities said the deputy ordered West to stop, but she ran around the corner of the business and into an alleyway. Court filings indicate the deputy observed West jogging away before stopping her and placing her in custody.

Store employees told investigators West entered the business on foot and walked directly to the back employee area, court records state. Documents allege West punched one employee in the face with a closed fist. Authorities said West then began kicking holes in the drywall, damaging three separate walls in different areas of the store. Records note the wall damage reportedly broke an electrical outlet in the process.

When another employee attempted to intervene, court papers allege West punched that employee on both sides of his face with a closed fist. Filings indicate the employee was able to escort West out of the employee area and back to the front of the store. Once at the front, documents allege West punched a third employee in the neck and cheek. Court records state all victims reported slight redness in the areas where they said they were struck.

Charging documents allege West appeared to be highly intoxicated during the incident. Records state deputies observed West had glassy eyes, smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage and was unsteady on her feet once in custody.

West faces three counts of second-degree assault, each carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a $2,500 fine if convicted. Additionally, court records show she is charged with malicious destruction of property valued at $1,000 or more; resisting or interfering with arrest, which carries a maximum penalty of three years imprisonment and a $5,000 fine; failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order; disturbing the peace; and disorderly conduct.

Judge Kenneth A. Talley presided over West’s bail review hearing on Oct. 6, 2025, ordering her held without bond. Court documents reveal Judge Talley also ordered a competency evaluation through the Maryland Department of Health on the same date. Records show a report from MDH was filed on Oct. 10, 2025.

Court filings indicate West initially waived her right to an attorney and was deemed ineligible for public defender services. However, documents show she was later determined eligible for public defender representation. The Charles County Public Defender’s Office entered an appearance on Oct. 9, 2025, and filed motions for a speedy trial and discovery inspection.

A competency hearing is scheduled for Oct. 14, 2025, followed by a trial date of Nov. 21, 2025, in Charles County District Court in La Plata. The State’s Attorney’s Office for Charles County is prosecuting the case.

  1. I’m glad she was held without bond. She’s dangerous. She doesn’t look or sound angelic.

  2. When did chess champs start getting tattooed? …or does it indicate she’s merely a pawn?

  3. I’m sure hope the majority of Charles Co and Maryland leadership will stop trying to find ways to justify her (and others’) behavior. These folks have grown up w/out consequences and full of entitlement. Please don’t let this behavior go unmet w/out serious repercussions. How terrible it would be to let hard working people be dehumanized and abused like that? Crack down on this, please, Maryland.
