The Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office announces it will apply for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grantย  through the United States Department of Justice. The grant, which is part of the Formula Program, provides states, tribes and local governments with funding for a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on local needs and conditions.

JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system, from multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections and information sharing initiatives.

The Sheriffโ€™s Office is eligible for $86,893 through the grant, which combines the Byrne Formula and Local Law Enforcement Block Grant programs to provide agencies with the flexibility to prioritize and use justice funds where they are needed most.

The Sheriffโ€™s Office invites citizens to make comments or review the Sheriffโ€™s Officeโ€™s JAG application. Contact R. Jack Hurd, Director of Administrative Services, at (301) 609-6544. All comments should be made by July 21.
