The Mission: To slow down motorcyclists traveling through Charles County. The Result: 236 citations, 34 warnings, 10 repair orders and an arrest for drunk driving.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office conducted a motorcycle safety operation in Bel Alton south to Budds Creek Road July 18-19 to encourage safe driving among motorcyclists traveling to and from a motorcycle festival being held at the Maryland International Raceway. The operation was planned in response to the many reports the Sheriff’s Office received last year of motorcycles speeding and being driven recklessly during the annual event.
“This operation slowed down the motorcyclists participating in this event, making the roads saver for themselves and for other drivers,” said Sheriff Rex W. Coffey. “Our success is a testament to how skillfully our Traffic Operations Unit handles traffic problems in our community and how dedicated they are to making potentially dangerous highway situations much safer through focused enforcement.”
