The Mission: To slow down motorcyclists traveling through Charles County. The Result: 236 citations, 34 warnings, 10 repair orders and an arrest for drunk driving.

The Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office conducted a motorcycle safety operation in Bel Alton south to Budds Creek Road July 18-19 to encourage safe driving among motorcyclists traveling to and from a motorcycle festival being held at the Maryland International Raceway. The operation was planned in response to the many reports the Sheriffโ€™s Office received last year of motorcycles speeding and being driven recklessly during the annual event.

โ€œThis operation slowed down the motorcyclists participating in this event, making the roads saver for themselves and for other drivers,โ€ said Sheriff Rex W. Coffey. โ€œOur success is a testament to how skillfully our Traffic Operations Unit handles traffic problems in our community and how dedicated they are to making potentially dangerous highway situations much safer through focused enforcement.โ€
