In early fall of 2010 the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office was recognized by the Maryland Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, which is a staff group within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. This recognition came in the form of the Pro Patria Award, the highest state-level award conferred on employers by the committee.

Recipients are honored for their support of employees who are members of the National Guard or Military Reserves and have demonstrated exceptional support for national defense by adopting personnel policies that make it easier for their employees to serve as Guard members or Reservists.

First Sergeant Tim Buckmaster wrote a compelling submission regarding the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office support of our employees serving as Reservists which resulted in the Agency award. The Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office has many former military personnel and still has two members actively serving our country as Reservists; Corporal Jim Wahlgren and Deputy First Class Moises Velazquez. Both are members of the Bureau of Patrol.

Sheriff Evans and Colonel Hejl are very proud to support those in the Agency that still serve our nation proudly.
