ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – Sophomore Robert Shively (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman) was named the Atlantic East Conference Elite 20 Award recipient in men’s swimming. The conference office announced Shively as the Elite 20 Award recipient Sunday night (Feb. 18) at the conclusion of the 2024 Atlantic East Men’s and Women’s Swimming Championships.
The Atlantic East established the Elite 20 Award program in the Fall of 2021 to honor the highest achievement in academics and athletics by a student-athlete in each Atlantic East-sponsored sport. Modeled after the NCAA Elite 90 academic recognition award program, the Atlantic East Elite 20 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA) competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East’s 20 team championships.
Shively boasts a 3.972 cumulative GPA as a mathematics major and triple minor in material science, computer science, and physics. He has made the Dean’s List every semester and last season, he landed on the Atlantic East All-Academic Team.
This past weekend, Shively collected gold medals in the 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly and as a member of the 200 and 400 medley relays. He also notched a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly and as part of the 800-freestyle relay
St. Mary’s College claimed a second-place finish at the Atlantic East championship meet for the second consecutive season with 701 points.
