SOLOMONS, MD – A sinking derelict boat in the Patuxent River near Solomon’s Island is raising concerns and frustrations among locals.

Since Aug. 21, several people on the Southern Maryland Sailing Association Facebook page have shared their frustrations on the lack of effort from the authorities to remove the boat. Others shared their concerns about the possibility of fuel and other pollutants leaking into the river.

According to a representative from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Natural Resources Police (NRP) are investigating the issue and if charges are pressed the department have more flexibility to move the boat.

If pollutants from the boat are found to be leaking into the river, the case will be handed to the U.S Coast Guard or Maryland Department of the Environment.
