HUGHESVILLE, Md. – The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC), a division of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland (TCCSMD), is proud to announce the release of its Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Report. This report showcases the dynamic and thriving agricultural landscape of Southern Maryland, which stretches from the Beltway to the Bay and encompasses a vibrant farming community.

In FY 2024, SMADC secured over $2 million in outside grant funding to bolster regional projects, passed a bipartisan legislative bill to try to secure future funding in the State Budget, and expanded food access programs that support local farmers while addressing hunger in the community.

“Our mission is to cultivate a profitable food system that support farmers, small businesses, and the environment.” said Shelby Watson-Hampton, Director. “We believe in fostering infrastructure that supports regional food systems, ensuring that all community members can thrive.”

The dedication of the SMADC staff and commission continues to drive innovative programs that benefit farmers and agribusinesses alike. The commission remains committed to enhancing the quality of life for all community members through sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship.
