SOUTHERN MARYLAND – The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC), a division of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland (TCCSMD) released its Fiscal Year 2025 Annual Report today, detailing a landmark year of growth and resilience.

The report highlights SMADC’s success in navigating a challenging state and federal fiscal landscape to solidify vital funding for the 2026 Fiscal Year. These funds are designated to support regional projects that bolster Southern Maryland’s farming economy and infrastructure.

“Fiscal Year 2025 was a year of incredible momentum for SMADC, despite the complexities of the current fiscal landscape,” said Shelby Watson-Hampton, SMADC director. “From securing significant grant funding to expanding our food access programs that support both hungry families and our local producers, this report is a testament to the dedication of our staff and the unwavering resilience of the Southern Maryland farming community.”

A central pillar of the past year’s success was the expansion of food access programs. These initiatives function as a dual-benefit system, directly compensating local farmers for their goods while providing fresh, nutritious food to underserved populations within the community.

The FY25 Annual Report identifies three key areas of accomplishment:

  • Strategic Economic Development: Advancing core initiatives to deliver tangible impacts across the region despite broader economic uncertainty.
  • Innovative Stewardship: Maintaining a commitment to sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship for the benefit of all Southern Maryland residents.
  • Mission-Driven Growth: Expanding educational and promotional programming to ensure a vibrant and thriving local farming industry.

SMADC, a division of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland (TCCSMD), serves as a primary resource for economic development, education, and industry promotion within the agricultural community. The FY25 report is intended to serve as both a detailed accounting of the past year’s stewardship and a roadmap for the organization’s future service.
