HUGHESVILLE, Md. — Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative is helping local residents save more on their energy bills with an enhanced offer through its Energy Perks program.
As of March 5, SMECO doubled the value of its Marketplace coupons. The program is free and available to all SMECO residential customers. By completing quick and simple monthly activities, members earn points that can be exchanged for coupons to use in SMECO’s online Marketplace.
What Is the SMECO Marketplace?
The SMECO Marketplace is an online store developed specifically for SMECO’s residential electric members. Products include smart thermostats, LED light bulbs, advanced power strips and other energy-efficient home items. Members are also eligible to purchase products with instant rebates applied through the SMECO Marketplace. Eligibility will be verified in the online store using each member’s SMECO account number or service address at checkout.

The Energy Perks program is part of EmPOWER Maryland, funded by a charge on energy bills. These programs are designed to help reduce energy use and save money over time. Since you’re already paying into EmPOWER, members should make the most of the benefits available.
No Cost to Join, Quick to Start Saving
There is no cost to enroll in Energy Perks. New members can begin earning points immediately by completing a welcome activity. Each month, SMECO sends new activities to participants, such as quizzes, energy-saving plans or short videos. Each activity is worth between five and 50 points.
After earning 20 points, members receive a $20 coupon via email within two to three days. Points can also be saved and combined for larger discounts. All points are valid through Nov. 30, 2026.
