Arrest in southern Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Two men from Denton were arrested and three juveniles cited Wednesday after Anne Arundel County Police located a carjacked vehicle in Annapolis and identified multiple suspects connected to its theft.

The investigation began around 1 p.m. on August 6, 2025, when officers from the department’s Southern District responded to the 100 block of Jennifer Road after receiving a tip that a stolen 2014 Dodge Avenger was in the area. The vehicle was found unoccupied with its keys still in the ignition. A BB gun was also recovered from inside.

Police used surveillance footage from nearby businesses to develop suspect descriptions. Less than two hours later, officers spotted a group matching the description and detained five individuals in the same area.

One of the individuals, identified as Davine Darrin Copper, 55, of Denton, was confirmed as the person seen on the surveillance video. Copper was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including felony motor vehicle theft, misdemeanor unauthorized removal of a motor vehicle, theft between $1,500 and $25,000, and concealing a dangerous weapon. He is being held without bond.

Also arrested was Daniel James Dyott, 33, also of Denton. He faces similar charges and remains held without bond. A preliminary trial date is set for September 26 in Annapolis District Court.

Three juveniles—two 16-year-olds (one male, one female) and a 17-year-old male—were cited in connection to the case. Their identities have not been released due to their ages.

The Dodge Avenger was reported stolen from Denton, and local authorities there are now involved in the ongoing investigation.
