LANCASTER P.A. —ย Coming off a quick three game road trip, Southern Maryland hit the road for a six game road trip beginning in Lancaster.ย  The Blue Crabs use spread out scoring and solid pitching to defeat the Barnstormers by the final of 8-4.

Southern Maryland jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring three runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a Kuan-Jen Chen two run single.ย  Fred Lewis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Zach Wilson singled in a run in the fifth and sixth innings respectively to bring the score to 5-1.ย 

Lancaster attempted to get back in the game in the bottom of the seventh with three runs scored.ย  Michael Crouse grounded out to second allowing a run to score.ย  A couple of batter later Mike McDade singled scoring Travis Witherspoon to cut the Blue Crabs lead to two.ย  LHP Jeff Urlaub came into the game out of the bullpen and allowed a single to the next Barnstormer hitter Josh Bell, allowing Caleb Gindl to score to cut the lead to 5-4.

The Blue Crabs added insurance runs in the top of the eighth.ย  Jamar Walton started the rally with a solo homerun.ย  A few batter later, with Lombardozzi on base, Eric Garcia rips his first homerun of the season over the wall in right to bring the score to itsโ€™ final of 8-4.ย 

LHP Brian Burres picked up his first win of the season, throwing five solid innings.ย  Jamar Walton homered for the second consecutive game, while, Eric Garcia and Kuan-Jen Chen each drove in two runs on the evening.ย 

Game two will take place tomorrow night at 7:00 from Clipper Magazine Stadium, as the Blue Crabs look to win their third straight.ย  RHP Jon Leicester (0-1, 2.19) will throw for the Blue Crabs, while RHP Bryan Evans (1-1, 4.20) will start for Lancaster.
