PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — In a groundbreaking moment for girls’ sports, BHC, an all-girls flag football team from Southern Maryland, is making history as they prepare to send three teams to the Junior Olympics in Houston, Texas. This powerhouse program is proving that the future of football includes fierce female athletes at every level.

Led by President Dave Gaines and Vice President Dallas Disney, the program features 6U and 8U non-travel squads, traveling teams for 10U, 12U, and a high school team on a five-tournament win streak for the last six months, all showcasing skill and determination. More than just competition, BHC is about building character, accountability and life skills.

“This isn’t just about winning games,” said Coach Gaines. “It’s about showing young girls they belong in this sport and can compete at the highest level.”

With Nike and Soccer Post backing them, BHC has access to top-tier gear, easing financial burdens and allowing coaches to focus on player development. “Nike’s support boosts the girls’ confidence—it lets them know their hard work is being noticed,” Dallas added.

Girls flag football is growing rapidly, with the National Intercollegiate Athletic Association (NIAA) now recognizing it. Recently, the NCAA recommended flag football be added to the NCAA Emerging Sports for Women program. Dave has also worked with Bowie State to help their program start the steps as the HBCUs and CIAA take steps to make flag football a varsity sport, and in 2028, women’s flag football will debut in the Olympics.

Coaching isn’t without challenges. “Life happens, keeping them engaged is key, and life is about the long game,” said Gaines. BHC fosters a tight-knit family environment, spending time together beyond the field. “The girls push each other, adapt, and grow—not just as athletes, but as people,” said Dallas.

Through victories and setbacks—like a game in Florida where their QB was injured, forcing the team to step up and win with a new strategy—BHC is proving they have what it takes. Their ultimate goal? To see flag football sanctioned in high schools and create college-level opportunities for female athletes.

With their sights set on gold at the Junior Olympics, one thing is certain—BHC isn’t just playing the game; they’re changing it.

This journey wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support from sponsors. Nike, Soccer Post, Local 602, East Coast Iron Workers, Rod ‘N’ Reel, SOMD Knockout, DJ Ketchup, A&A Gaming, Washington, D.C., Local 5 Plumbers and Steamfitters, and the amazing parents, friends and families from our community—thank you for believing in our athletes and helping pave the way for the future of girls’ flag football. Your support means everything to this team!
