An accidental fire Saturday, Nov. 23 damaged a single-family house on Neighbors Place in Nanjemoy, state officials reported.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the blaze was discovered around 3:15 p.m. by the homeowner.

Twenty-four firefighters from Nanjemoy, Potomac Heights and Indian Head were dispatched to the one-alarm fire and had the flames under control in 17 minutes.

There were no injuries reported. Damage is estimated at $25,000.

โ€œInvestigation determined a space heater ignited contents inside a bedroom because it [space heater] was placed to closely to the contents,โ€ Dfm. Don Brenneman stated. โ€œThe fire was contained to the bedroom.โ€

Brenneman reported the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross and other family members.
