An accidental fire Saturday, Nov. 23 damaged a single-family house on Neighbors Place in Nanjemoy, state officials reported.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, the blaze was discovered around 3:15 p.m. by the homeowner.
Twenty-four firefighters from Nanjemoy, Potomac Heights and Indian Head were dispatched to the one-alarm fire and had the flames under control in 17 minutes.
There were no injuries reported. Damage is estimated at $25,000.
โInvestigation determined a space heater ignited contents inside a bedroom because it [space heater] was placed to closely to the contents,โ Dfm. Don Brenneman stated. โThe fire was contained to the bedroom.โ
Brenneman reported the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross and other family members.
