The following report was issued by Jon Castro of the Chesapeake Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant regarding a sanitary sewer overflow release in Chesapeake Bay.
At approximately 4 to 6 a.m. on Nov. 27, the Chesapeake Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) experienced a solids loss into the plant’s effluent discharge line. This was due to high rainfalls in a short amount of time and Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) construction. An estimated 60,000 gallons of partially treated effluent was discharged into the Chesapeake Bay through a discharge pipe.
The Calvert County Health Department and Maryland Department of the Environment were notified of this release
