At 10 p.m. Dec. 27, Charles County Sheriffโs Sgt. D. Bacon was traveling west in the 600 block of Charles Street in La Plata when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and learned the driver, Bryan Andrew Zanellotti, 18, of Charlotte Hall, had a suspended license. When Sgt. Bacon attempted to arrest Zanellotti, the passenger in the vehicle, a 17-year-old Mechanicsville girl, became disorderly.
She refused officers orders to stop and was subsequently arrested.
Zanellotti also became disorderly, spat on Sgt. Bacon and resisted arrest. However, officers subdued him and placed him into custody.
A search revealed he was in possession of marijuana and officers also determined the vehicle was stolen.
The passenger was charged with disorderly conduct and released. Zanellotti was charged with resisting arrest, theft of a motor vehicle, second degree assault, theft less than $100, disorderly conduct, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Officer C. Walter investigated.
