ST. LEONARD, Md. — A St. Leonard man is facing a long list of felony and traffic charges after deputies say a domestic assault escalated into a high-speed pursuit, a crash, and an armed standoff.

According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a St. Leonard residence around 3:22 p.m. on Aug. 19 for a reported disturbance involving Raymond Travis Entsminger, 52. Investigators determined Entsminger had assaulted and unlawfully detained a woman inside the home and was under the influence of narcotics while armed with a loaded handgun.

When deputies attempted to intervene, Entsminger fled in a vehicle, ignoring emergency lights and sirens. Authorities said he sped through the area at nearly 90 mph in a 55-mph zone, weaving across lanes and driving off the roadway in hazardous weather. The chase ended in a crash on Parkers Creek Road, where a standoff followed before deputies took him into custody without further incident.

A search recovered a loaded handgun, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and more than $2,700 in cash. Entsminger, a convicted felon, now faces charges including false imprisonment, first- and second-degree assault, multiple handgun violations, illegal possession of ammunition, and use of a firearm in a violent crime. He is also charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, as well as reckless and negligent driving, unsafe lane changes, failure to signal, and eluding police.

Court records show Entsminger was ordered held without bond following a hearing on Aug. 22. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 17 in Calvert District Court.
