LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — The following notice was posted by the St. Mary’s County NAACP branch regarding their president being relinquished of his duties while seeking public office.
“William R. Hall I (BJ Hall) current president of the St. Mary’s County NAACP #7025 has declared his candidacy for Commissioners of St. Mary’s County Board President. In compliance with NAACP National Board policy, this relinquishes him from his office as president of the St. Mary’s County branch during his candidacy.
Dr. Janice T. Walthour, former president of the branch and currently, first vice-president will serve as president during his candidacy until such time as the results of the election are confirmed.
The NAACP is a non-partisan organization and does not endorse candidates for political office at any level. Persons affiliated with the NAACP at the national, state, and local levels are free to make candidate endorsements in a personal capacity, but they do not reflect support by the NAACP as an organization. The NAACP has one mission and that is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.”
