St. Mary's Woman In Custody After Allegedly Setting Own Home On Fire

COLTONS POINT, Md. – One person is in custody after allegedly setting a home ablaze in Coltons Point on February 2, 2024.

Police, fire and rescue personnel responded to a structure fire in the 38100 block of Beach Road at approximately 8:05 p.m. The was house on fire while occupants may have still been inside, while the suspect fled.

Within minutes, police located the suspect near the pier with cuts on their neck. After securing the scene, the suspect was taken into custody, and deputies escorted them from the water to an awaiting ambulance. EMS evaluated the suspect and transported them to a local trauma center for treatment.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames. They quickly began a defensive attack on the fire. No occupants were trapped. Two fire boats were requested for water supply at Point Breeze Pier, with crews stretching out 600 feet of hose for water supply. In total, 74 personnel responded to the scene.

As of 9:00 p.m., crews remain on the scene battling the blaze.

SMECO and the Office of the State Fire Marshal were notified and requested at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation. Updates will be provided as they become available.
