Waldorf, MD โ€“ State officials are investigating a second fire at a vacant house in Waldorf. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the latest blaze at the home on Old Washington Road occurred Saturday, Dec. 6 around 5:40 p.m. and was deliberately set.

โ€œA passerby traveling Old Washington Road noticed smoke and flames coming from the vacant house,โ€ stated Dfm. Melissa Decker. โ€œOnce the fire departments responded they were able to extinguish the fire. This is the second fire discovered within the vacant house within the week.โ€

Forty-nine firefighters from Waldorf, La Plata, Bryans Road, Hughesville, Brandywine, Accokeek, Clinton and Baden were dispatched to the scene and brought the flames under control in 30 minutes. There were no injuries. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

Decker reported the fire originated in a closet on the houseโ€™s second floor.

According to Decker, the vacant house is owned by George Grinder.

The Fire Marshalโ€™s Office investigation is ongoing and anyone with information that could aid in the probe of either fire that occurred at the house is asked to contact the agencyโ€™s Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6834.
