CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — The town of Chesapeake Beach has announced the cancellation of a highly anticipated new summer event, the Summer Night Festival, which was scheduled to take place Friday, June 19.
“Due to the significant rainfall expected over the next several days and the resulting field conditions, the Summer Night Festival scheduled for Friday, June 19, has been canceled,” the town wrote on its Facebook page. “With continued rain in the forecast, conditions at Kellam’s Field Complex are expected to be wet and unsuitable for the event experience we strive to provide for our attendees, vendors and performers. While we are disappointed to cancel, we appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing everyone at our next Summer Night Festival on July 17.”
The cancellation was confirmed in an update on its website.
Held on the third Friday of each month, the Summer Night Festivals offer a relaxed outdoor atmosphere where friends, families and neighbors can gather to enjoy live music, community connections and the charm of Chesapeake Beach. Events take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kellam’s Field Complex. The event features food vendors, local businesses, live music and family-friendly activities.
With the cancellation of the June First Friday event in North Beach due to safety precautions, many in the Beaches community were counting on the Summer Night Festival to fill the gap for a local activity in the area. So far, First Friday is proceeding as scheduled on July 10.
The remaining Summer Night Festivals are scheduled for July 17, Aug. 21 and Sept. 18. Locals can follow the town on Facebook for the latest updates.
