Leonardtown, MD— On August 8, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. O’Connor responded to.a reported assault in progressย
Upon arrival, O’Connor located the defendant, who was identifiedย as Sarah A. Cohen, 23 of no fixed address. O’Connor asked Cohen if she had any weapons on her. She attempted to leave the scene but was detained by police officers.ย
While Cohen and the victimย were in McDonald’s, Cohen pulled out a knife and threatened the victim with it. Cohen then left the McDonald’s and while outside attempted to, “burn the victim with a cigar and a lighter,” accordingย to charging documents. ย
Cohen was taken into custody and taken to Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital for a mental evaluation. A search of Cohen’s person yielded a pocketknife, partially burnt cigars and a lighter.
While at the hospital Cohen became very uncooperative. Cohen spit on a nurse, as well as tried to bite her. Cohen also attemptedย to bite a deputyย several times. While being restrained ย by medical staff Cohen used her fingernails to scratch another deputy, breaking his skin and drawing blood.ย
According to charging documents, “Cohen has no current address or phone number and is living out of her mother’s van.”ย
At this time Cohen does not have a scheduled court appearance set, however Cohen faces aย maximum jail sentence of 35 years and/or a maximum fine of $12,500.ย
