At approximately 8:13 am, Feb. 15, Timothy Michael Donais, 32, of Mechanicsville was driving his 2000 Ford Explorer northbound on Thompson Corner Road approximately one mile North of Bethel Church Road when he crashed onto the rear of a northbound horse-drawn buggy.

The buggy was being driven by Mary Z. Hostetler, 60, of Charlotte Hall. Mrs. Hostetler’s 12-year-old granddaughter was a passenger in the buggy. The buggy, constructed of wood, fiberglass, and metal was destroyed. The horse was injured and taken to a nearby farm to be cared for until the owner could make disposition.

Mrs. Hostetler and her granddaughter were flown to Med Star and Children’s Hospital for treatment of their serious injuries.

The accident is still under investigation and no charges have been placed at this time by the investigating officers SDFC Gene Hill and SDFC Emory Johnson.
