At approximately 5:45 p.m. on March 2, the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squadย had a report of a teen in the woods with a broken leg behind 3700 Ponds Wood Drive.

As the fire and rescue units arrived at the scene to find the teen, it was soon known that getting to the patient would be an issue.ย  Heavy snow had fallen on the area for the past 24 hours and getting equipment closer than the blacktop area at the end of Ponds Wood Drive would be a problem.ย ย The ambulance would have to wait at this location for the patient.ย  Other units HVFD Utility Truck and Brush Unit made it about half way toward the patient and the rest of the way would have to be by foot estimated remaining 600 or 700 feet.

Fire department members took the basket skid and chain saw to get the patient out along with medical personnel and supplies.ย  The patient was located. The teenager with a broken leg was stabilized and wrapped with blankets, then placed in a basket to be hauled out to the ambulance waiting to transport to Calvert Memorial Hospital.
